Finishing 2018 Strong

I hope that your Thanksgiving was a good one and that the holiday season this year treats you well. To say that our Fraternity has a great deal to accomplish as we enter the new year would be an understatement. From the recent appointments of our regional grand deltas, beginning the search for a new executive director, and preparing for Men of Honor, there is a great deal of information to unpack, and an even greater deal to be excited for.

As you may have heard, Grand Theta Ruybe announced the appointment of our three new regional grand deltas: Trevor Wiles (Gamma Gamma, Carthage ’14) for the Midwest, Orion Pelausa (Delta Upsilon, VCU ’11) for the South, and Chuck Beck (Alpha Epsilon, IIT ’09) for the Northeast.  As for the Western region, Grand Theta Ruybe will be acting as the interim delta until someone suitable can be selected. I want to congratulate our new deltas and look forward to working with them. The new regions have been mapped out at the end of this post.

To support our new deltas, we are opening a search for 20 assistant grand deltas, each of whom will oversee the servicing of 2-3 chapters within their designated regions. If you are interested in volunteering for any of these positions, make sure you fill out a volunteer application at

Come this January, we will host the 18th annual Men of Honor Leadership Institute. As of November, our total Men of Honor attendance (including staff, board members, participants, ambassadors, and facilitators) is 167. I cannot express how excited I am to see everyone in Asheville. To everyone who is attending, I am very excited to be able to share this life-changing experience with all of you. If you are attending, please add yourself to the Facebook group and keep an eye out for important emails from staff. In order to secure your registration and a shuttle ride to/from the airport, you must have paid your registration fee and sent staff your travel itinerary no later than December 15.

As you probably know, our executive director, Libby Anderson, has announced her resignation and will be leaving staff on December 19. Once again, I want to commend Libby for her work and dedication to Phi Kappa Sigma, and encourage that we all support her as she begins this new chapter in her career and life. With that being said, we are currently searching for a new executive director and plan to start the application and interview process early into the New Year. Until then, an interim executive director will be selected and put into place come either this January or early February. As always, we shall keep all of you informed as more details become available.

Thank you for all you do, and here’s to a Happy New Year.

#myFraternity, Men of Honor, and the Countdown to 100

Posted By Dave Smith, Monday, September 24, 2018

Brothers and friends,

It is my pleasure to speak with you in my first-ever blog post as grand alpha. It is my hope that this blog will continue to be a useful source of information for upcoming events, undergraduate and alumni accomplishments, and noteworthy happenings here at HQ. We have a big year coming up, and I couldn’t be more excited to share our progress with you all and involve you every chance we get!

First and foremost, registration is now up for Men of Honor 2019. This year, we wanted to change things up a bit to make the experience of our participants, ambassadors, and facilitators even better. It is the opinion of the Executive Board and headquarters staff that we should celebrate every opportunity to grow and learn together, so this year, the Board will be holding its meeting in Asheville during Men of Honor. We believe this will open our doors to you, the active membership, and bring us closer together. Register to be a Men of Honor participant, facilitator, or ambassador, and use the hashtag #MOH19 to stay up-to-date on social media.

I want to thank everyone who attended this year’s 99th Grand Chapter one more time. As many of you know, this was the biggest convention we have had in at least the last decade, and it was humbling to be a part of it with you all. Thanks to our special guests and speakers for their time and enriching presentations, and thanks to our staff and volunteers for organizing the whole thing.

I encourage all of you to volunteer for a 100th Grand Chapter committee. Our 100th convention is sure to be one for the books, and we’ll need all the help we can get as we return to our hometown of Philadelphia. Please reach out to staff for more information on how you can get involved. There are currently four committees, all of which need volunteers: Educational Programming, Alumni Programming, Social Event Planning, and Spouse Programming. Use the hashtag #GC100 to stay up-to-date with Grand Chapter 2020, and we’ll see you in the City of Brotherly Love!

Recently, the Fraternity took part in the NIC’s social media day, dubbed #myFraternity. This campaign was meant to highlight the positive change Greek organizations affect in their members, on their campuses, and in their communities. During a day of dizzying national and international news stories, #myFraternity was the 11th top-trending topic on Twitter. Congratulations to everyone who took part. Keep the message going on your personal social media and your chapter’s social media by using the hashtag #myFraternity year-round.

Thanks for all you do, and here’s to a great school year!
