the place for social media

It is essential for Phi Kappa Sigma to have a strong, student-run social media presence. Out of the many reasons to support this, among the most important is that it helps us to stay connected with one another. The ability to display photos and information on a global scale and keep brothers in contact is critical.

One specific example I came across involved promoting a brother who was studying abroad in Argentina. By supporting our brothers in their personal endeavors, it shows a united front, that we are proud of each other’s accomplishments.

Social media also lets us communicate despite being separated by—at times—thousands of miles. Being present on social media allows our chapters to connect and learn from one another, like a real-time “lessons learned” analysis on an international scale. It makes our chapter better and increases the bonds we have within the Fraternity.

Within our chapters, brothers can post photos of events that the entire Phi Kap network can see, including Relay for Life events, fundraisers, and other volunteer work that greatly benefits our image and reputation. This kind of social media presence shows that Phi Kappa Sigma is involved on campus and it can also spark the interest of potential new members. If college students are exposed to pictures of events we participate in and the friendships that we create, they are more likely to show interest in joining.

Social media is here to stay, and it is important for the Fraternity to keep up with the world around it. By embracing our student-run social media presence, we can show that Phi Kappa Sigma is connected, relevant, and supportive of our brothers’ endeavors.

I think utilizing social media is imperative because it shows what we have to contribute as an organization, spreads information efficiently, and improves communication between brothers. Social media is something that is used every day and can be very beneficial in representing us and sharing what Phi Kappa Sigma has to offer our brothers, our schools, and the world.
