Thoughts from a New Guy

Posted By Johnathan Pham, Expansion Consultant, Thursday, October 8, 2015

Welcome to the first blog post from the Expansion side of staff. With this being my first semester on staff, I came to the job so excited to help groups in our fraternity grow.  After visiting a few chapters and seeing how some of our chapters are so motivated in growing their chapter, I feel even better about what I am doing.  Sometimes the results may not be immediate.  Most chapters will get discouraged when everything did not go as planned, but since recruitment is *365*, just keep working hard and remember why you are doing this.

If your chapter is one who may not be as motivated to grow, it is important to look at things from a different perspective.  You love the fraternity and want to share it with more people.  By growing your chapter you will be able to have more opportunities to do things you always wanted to.  Some groups tend to make the recruitment process too complicated so it confuses everyone.  The more active your chapters are on campus and the community the easier it is to bring in great quality members. If you would use your resources or encourage brothers to be more active on campus it would reflect on how the group performs.  After starting this position, I have learned that groups work differently and the obvious answer may not work for some schools, but we here at staff are here dedicated to helping our groups succeed and to prosper.

We just want to let everyone know that we are here anytime you have questions or need guidance with how your chapter is working on growing staff is happy to help.  This semester, so many of our groups have excelled in recruitment that we decided on showcase them with our inaugural Founders Day Photo Challenge, where each chapter show off their new members in a fun way.

So far, it has been a wonderful experience working here on staff.  I am learning so much as well as being a part of the great change that the current Grand Officers have envisioned.  I look forward to working with you all in the future!
